Book Review: Thanks, But This Isn’t for Us

I highly recommend this book for all writers. Its full title is Thanks, But This Isn’t for Us: A (Sort of) Compassionate Guide to Why Your Writing is Being Rejected

Written by developmental editor Jessica Page Morrell, this book covers a wide range of topics, including story beginnings, plot, dialogue, description, word choice and much more. Morrell writes about what to avoid in your prose and how to prevent or fix problems. Each chapter has a section called Deal Breakers, things that drive agents and editors crazy and will get your writing rejected. She also includes quick and dirty tips for making your writing better. Morrell’s informal style makes this book a pleasure to read.
